Since June 2015 children from Winwick Primary School in Newton-le-Willows have been getting active during their lunch hour as part of the Liverpool FC Foundation Skills & Drills.
Winwick PS Winwick Primary School is one of 50 schools engaged weekly on the S&D programme
The daily activities which include hockey, handball and dodgeball, have been a big hit according to head teacher Mr Price, who said “Paul (from the Skills & Drills team) comes in every lunch time and delivers playground games and sport to all years. The children are totally engaged in the sport of the day and really look forward to it when it is their year group’s turn”.
The sessions, which take place in the school’s purpose built games area, are designed to be fun and inclusive with the range of sports ensuring there is something for everyone. “I alternate the sports each week which is great because every child gets the chance to play their favourite sport”, explained Paul.
The daily sessions have also helped Paul build a rapport with children and staff which he believes to be one of the key reasons behind the programme’s success. Paul enthused:  “Everybody connected with the school has been very welcoming and being here on a daily basis has allowed me to become part of the school community”.

It seems the participants would agree, with one child saying: “I really enjoy playing a mix of sports with the children in my class and I have made some new friends in my team.”
