You’ll train to become a football or sports coach, through a mixture of theory study, practical sessions and weekly work experience. Your expert tutors will guide and support you in gaining nationally recognised qualifications to enhance your CV when making your next steps towards coaching.
What you need
You must attend a practical assessment prior to being offered a place on the course. You’ll also need to complete a DBS check.
Qualifications you’ll gain
- Level 2 NVQ Activity Leadership
- Level 2 Principles of Coaching Sport
- Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport
- Level 3 Diploma in Sport Development
- Level 3 Principles of Coaching Sport
Optional: FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football (including first aid and child protection certificates), FA Youth Module Level 1, FA Coaching Disability Footballers, FA Futsal Level 1 and FA Goalkeeping Level 1. Other National Governing Body qualifications on request.

Experience you’ll gain
With two weekly placements per week in Year 1, and three in Year 2, you’ll get a true taste of real world coaching of children of all ages. From teaching toddlers balance and agility skills, to advanced coaching of elite academy players.

Leading came naturally to Kieran when he joined the course at De La Salle Academy. He became a junior referee and put his newly acquired skills into practice in the UK and Scandinavia. His journey has been an adventurous one since having gained summer employment in the USA and more recently gone full time in Sri Lanka. Future coaching destinations include Thailand and Singapore.
