IMG_2429Football is not just a hobby or an interest for coach education tutor, Anthony Scotland. Football is everything. A man with a very competitive nature and vast experience, it is no wonder the Liverpool based role model with a wide variety of experience is developing a very popular name for himself within LLS and across the football industry.
Working passionately as a tutor across the North West and North Wales, Anthony has worked hard to establish himself as a well-rounded senior member of our team. He constantly transfers his knowledge and experience to students under his guidance and is on hand to provide endless support.
In June 2015, Anthony led a group of LLS students to Kisakallio Sports Institute to deliver a cultural exchange programme just outside of Helsinki, Finland.
Scandinavian exchange programmes have become somewhat second nature to Anthony and he almost treats this part of the world as his second home. Over the past twelve years, impressively, Anthony has visited Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland and now Finland in both a playing and coaching capacity.
In the early years of his playing career he participated and was victorious in many international tournaments across Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland before returning to Finland to coach local children and further coach-educate his own students preparing them to deliver their own ideas to local players.
There have been many highlights for Anthony throughout his Scandinavian adventures and we asked him what were his highlights…
β€˜A stand out highlight for me whilst playing has got to be captaining my junior side in the largest youth tournament in Europe at the Visa Rey Cup in Reyjavic, Iceland in 2004. It was an exciting trip given the fact that we would face up to some of the best teams across Europe during our weeklong stay. We beat Glasgow Rangers and Ipswich Town in the quarter and semi final before defeating an Icelandic representative XI in the final.
I was very proud to lift that trophy and we still talk about that tournament today!
As a coach educator it has been a fantastic experience watching those students I have personally developed, deliver sessions to Finnish children at Kisakallio Sports Institute. To play a part in the journey they have been on and to see them become International coaches under my guidance has been a special experience.
I am hoping this international experience will inspire them to travel to other destinations across the globe and become even more experienced individuals. I have challenged them to dominate Scandinavia just like me!’
